I had been using the Vaporesso Gen for a while, switching to GEN X in August.
Together with my Pyro V3 and now V4 I found this a very pleasant setup.
Although the GEN (X) was a bit on the large side, I really like the Axon chip in this mod.
I especially like the pulse mode. Before the Gen series, I had the SMOK Rigel which does not have this.
With wattage vape you notice that it needs longer to give a good 'pop'.
I really liked the Pulse setting on the Axon chip on the GEN; he gives a boost to the wattage every 0.02 sec, so that the hit and the taste are really much better.
I was therefore pleasantly surprised that Vaporesso recently developed a new mod with this chipset, the Vaporesso Target 200.
When I saw the images online (and the reviews online) I was sold and this would be the update for the GEN. Many advantages:
- Much smaller
- Dual battery
- Light
- Handier
- USB-C (!)
First some specifications:
- Dual 18650 batteries
- USB-C charging
- 5-220 Watts
- Size: 89.6 x 42.8 x 33.7mm
- Only 124gr without battery (with battery around 290gr)
- Axon chip with FT (more later) mode, Pulse mode and Wattage mode
Packaging
Not very exciting but the mod arrived fully sealed and on the front you see a product photo and some specs, on the back the content.
Package contents
On the left you see the side of the mod where the texture stands out in particular. This texture is on 2 sides.
The original GEN also had a very fine texture to hold, the GEN X was aluminum and was much smoother (and cold in the morning and winter).
At the Target 200 they have come up with something new; it is a kind of textile structure that is very pleasant to hold.
I've looked at several reviews but Vaporesso isn't really clear on what it is.
It is, when you press on it, something flexible and lies very nice in the hand. It seems to be some kind of hard "dust".
Of course, a USB-C cable is also included.
Below the content photo you can see that there is also a manual and some warranty cards packed in a sleeve.
The MOD
Here you see the front and back of the Target 200.
On the front is the fire button at the top, which is very chic finished with a metal-colored edge.
At the bottom a 'face' with the up and down button, the menu button and the USB-C charging port.
The rear looks really cool; you can see that it is slightly rounded (did I mention nice in the hand because of this) and the Vaporesso branding.
The frame is metal/aluminium (I ordered the black version).
Top
Many of the Chinese items I buy often contain something 'special'.
This is also the case with the Target 200. The top cap -on which a 25mm wide tank fits best- is slightly raised on the mod.
No idea why they did this but if you have a larger or smaller tank you will see this.
I only use it (so far) with the Pyro V4 and it really fits perfectly.
It doesn't bother me personally, but the design choice is special…. Judge yourself!
You will also see the 510 connector that is 'spring loaded'. The gold-colored contact pin therefore moves with the tank you place on it.
Also a photo of the screw thread which is fine. I've never had a problem with this on any of my mods.
Placing batteries and bottom
The Target 200 is powered by 2x an 18650 battery which fits perfectly in it.
Clearly indicated what the + and – side should be on the valve.
I tried to capture here that the mod is really very small.
Very clever what Vaporesso has done here; the chip and all wires are hidden somewhere in the mod because there is really very little room for this.
The mod is really small. In the photo below the bottom with branding, the cover is attached very well, you press the batteries down slightly and slide the cover into place.
The cover has never come off on me. So he's fine.
Operation mod and display
There are multiple modes in which the mod can work. These are:
- Pulse mode. Every 0.02 seconds a pulse is pushed through the coils, which makes the coils much faster temperature and continuously get a kind of extra small 'hit'. For me personally the reason to purchase this mod (after the design).
The Gen has the Axon 1 chip and this one has version 2, as far as I could find the only thing added in the V2 version is the F(t) mode.
- F(t) mode. I can't get it completely clear what this is but it has to do with the mod being able to adjust the voltage and trying to keep the temp equal to an optimal temperature. No added value for me personally.
-DIY fashion. Here you can set Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage and Bypass. No added value for me.
-The mod works from 5 to 220 watts and has no temperature controlled vaping.
Each fashion has its own color on the 0.96 inch display. These colors are -unfortunately- not adjustable.
Pulse is red, Wattage is cyan and F(t) mode is yellow on the display. See the pictures below with the different modes.
The display is bright enough in all circumstances (cannot be adjusted) and is also easy to read outdoors in bright light.
The display shows the set wattage, as well as how full the batteries are, the resistance of the coils, voltage used, puff counter and the duration of the 'lift'.
The buttons to set the wattages can be lured by clicking 3x on the fire button.
Charging with USB-C
You can charge the mod yourself with USB-C, all my other mods didn't have this. No more hassle with old USB cables!
In the bottom photo you can see what the display looks like when you have it connected to the power.
Here it neatly indicates the percentage and the time it takes to fully charge the mod.
Charging itself is really fast, much faster than with micro USB.
Tank on mod
In the pictures below I have the Pyro V4 (25mm diameter) on the mod,
this is my current, daily setup which I like very much.
No overhanging tanks as you can see and the tank fits the mod perfectly. Judge yourself:
Comparative photos
As stated, the mod feels very good in the hand and I find it surprisingly small for a dual battery mod.
Here you can see some pictures with my Gen X and in the bottom pictures next to a SMOK Rigel.
I thought it was small at the time, but the Target 200 is even smaller.
Conclusion
I think it was reasonable from the review but I really think this is, by far, the best mod I've had so far.
And I've used quite a few mods in the meantime.
Vaporesso has delivered a really good version again with this mod:
Small, USB-C, light, chic, easy in the menus, the different vaping modes…..what a beast this is!
2 minor drawbacks; temperature vapors are not possible and the platform that has been put on top to place the tank on.
Not a problem for me personally and these 2 disadvantages really do not outweigh the advantages at all. A 100% recommended!
In fact, I've been using this mod for a few weeks now and I've ordered its little brother (Target 80 and 100) too!
The Target 80 has a built-in battery and the 100 has one 21700 battery.
