Lost Vape Centaurus M200 Box Mod

I throw a few lines on Lost Vape 's Centaurus M200 kit, a product kindly offered by the store@Sourcemore.com which I thank. The kit consists of the box with the same name, i.e. Centaurus M200 and the Centaurus Sub Ohm tank. It is a dual battery box that only mounts the 18650 format with two particularities: aluminum doors that can be changed and an all in one button that occupies the role of fire and the normal "+" and "-" keys thanks to a wheel installed at the base. The kit is available in the following colors:

Brief overview of the content with the Centaurus M200 mod inside with the Sub Ohm tank, a 0.15 Ω UB MAX X1 coil, a 0.30 Ω UB MAX X3 coil. As spare parts for the tank, a 5ml bubble glass is available, identical to the one already installed and a package of spare parts with different orings inside. Finally a usb type-c cable, instruction manual and warranty.

The dimensions of the Centaurus M200 box by Lost Vape are 93*56.7*26mm for a total weight of 151 grams which becomes 220 with its tank mounted without batteries inserted. As I have already anticipated, almost the entire body of the box is in aluminum with a pleasant sensation to the touch even if a little "cold".

The panels, weighing 32 grams each, are held in place by two large magnets placed inside the top and bottom. The panel that covers the battery compartment has a minimum of play, which means that every now and then you feel it "move", while the one in the photo is totally solid.

Here you can see the bottom of the box and the practical insert for extracting the panels. As announced, it will be possible to buy separate panels to customize it.

In the upper part of the box it can be seen with the gold-plated floating pin , a cup of only 20 mm held in place by 3 screws that mounts atoms up to 26 mm thick without protruding positioned in the exact center of the box. A note on the pin : for the average of the boxes it is very "high", in the sense that two atom turns are enough for it to be read by the box. This option was probably chosen to avoid completely hitting the atom and, on the one hand, "locking" the flaps but also to avoid scratching the box.

Moving on the front there is the key called JOG DIAL INTERFACE, a name that I would pay gold to hear it pronounced by the youtuber Sebastian Scuderi in plastic material composed of three parts:

  • 1 fire button on click, as in any normal box: once pressed, the box dispenses
  • 2 backlit shells of the fire button, with each color corresponding to the residual charge of the two 18650 batteries.
  • 3 washer at the base of the button: turning it to the left is equivalent to " -" of any other box on the market, to the right at the "+". It doesn't have a detent, which means it spins endlessly.

As Lost Vape sees it, this button is a selling point that should direct the customer towards this Cerberus rather than other dual batteries. As I see it, it's something nice, a variant that makes the Cerberus unique, it can be a nice alternative for those who are in their fifth or sixth box, that's no doubt and I won't deny that I myself was quite curious to understand how it could work. In the end it didn't turn out to be who knows what feature with REAL pros compared to the "normal" keys of the other boxes.

On construction and feeling, in all the videos I've seen the wheel seems very soft, which I don't see on my model which, from what I understand, is identical to what is sold in any store. Therefore, if you are afraid of inadvertently moving the washer during the fire or when you put it in your pocket, it is quite difficult. Returning to the "fire" button instead when it is activated it has a good feeling, when you go for the 3 or 5 clicks to change modes or lock the box instead there is a "clicky" feeling too much.

Brief parenthesis on the shell of the backlit fire button which changes color depending on the charge during dispensing:

Once the jog dial chapter is closed, we move on to the 0.96 screen with a good maximum brightness. Outdoors, wearing sunglasses you can see very well without having to lift them. There are no brightness adjustments.

Under the screen there is the on / off button of the Cerberus mod, quite "hard" to operate (moving it to the right or left) but which allows you not to accidentally turn on the box if carried in your pocket.

Lastly, by removing the cover you can access the battery compartment. The cells are inserted by pressure and power the box thanks to two gold- plated floating pins . You don't need to make an immense force to "lift" them and allow the battery to be inserted but let's say they are not soft.

On the battery housing you can see the direction of the pole in which they must be inserted together with a cloth strap that helps extraction, even if I simply recommend pressing the battery "against" the pin and extracting it or time 5 times the wrap will ruin.

The box works thanks to the QUEST 2.0 circuit, a very essential circuit that has only the bare essentials. The watt boost works as follows:

  • starting from 5 watts (minimum power) to 39 watts the increase is 1 watt per click
  • from 40 to 98 watts the increase is 2 watts per click
  • from 100 to 195W (maximum power) the increase is 5 watts per click

But that's not all: after 200 watts you go back to 5 watts with a click and unfortunately, from 5 watts going back with a click you go back to 200 watts: so be careful to check how many watts you really are at, it takes little to shoot 200 watts inadvertently thinking maybe you have set them to 10 to initialize a coil in mtl.

There are basically two methods of delivery and they don't even differ that much.

Lost Vape Centaurus M200 Box Mod

  • Normal mode: a simple various watt/VW/power RDA DIY
  • mode: compared to normal there is a remapping of the menu, a different color of the theme and the volts supplied magically appear. During activation (first second, first second and a half) there is a small pre-heat, designed for complex coils mounted on regenerable atoms that require a little help to be initially lit. At the same wattage with the Normal mode, it also seems to me that it supplies a little more, let's say 5-10%: with mtl atoms above it is more evident, with flavor atoms or its Cerberus Sub Ohm much less; unfortunately Lost Vape does not disclose the exact formula, as I vape in MTLwith the atoms a little more pushy like the Belarusians or the fev I much prefer it to the Normal.

Nothing else, no bypass/mechanical simulation, smart/energy saving mode, different themes or menus.

Navigation and functions of the version in my possession, i.e. version 1.00

  • 3 clicks, the wheel to increase or decrease the watts is disabled. This means that the box is in a locked state but be careful that the fire works all right, as a mode it serves precisely to avoid accidental wheel movements. The real "lock" is to turn it off using the physical key.
  • 5 clicks, you switch from RDA DIY MODE to Normal mode and vice versa.
  • with the box off, fire button pressed + power button to reset the puff counter

On delivery: allow me to mention a question that has now fallen into disuse but which until 5 years ago was a must, perhaps more for pipes but still immortal: BUT THE SPINCE BOX??????????? The Centaurus M200 really pushes, at 70 watts the atom is nice reactive, the 0.15Ω X1 coil with recommended range 80-120W (therefore 10 watts less than the minimum wattage). The circuit is confirmed as something of little appearance, but a lot of substance.

Consumption chapter: thank god it does NOT download the cells when the box is off and it does not have excessive consumption if you forget it in standby mode. On the management of the two batteries, I tried a few pairs and in my model it always seems that the one on the right discharges first and then the one on the left comes into operation.

Protections chapter:

  • Check atomizer: enters when the box does not detect the atomizer or the resistance exceeds 5 Ω
  • Short circuit: enters when the detected resistance is less than 0.08 Ω
  • Too Hot: enters when the board reaches a temperature of 85 degrees and "hibernates" until it drops back below 65 degrees.
  • Low battery: activates when the voltage drops below 3.3: a few more fires are possible before the box no longer delivers.
  • Cut Off of delivery after 10 seconds

I write again that in lock mode (3 clicks fire key) the box DELIVERS ANYWAY, it's not a bug.

The supplied tank is called Centaurus Sub Ohm. It is 57 mm high, weighs 50 grams, has a capacity of 5 ml and a normal 510 thread. Attack of the drip tip combi steel + universal delrin 810, has a large double top airflow slot that prevents flooding and accidental spills of liquid.

The airflow has a practical knurled "grip" to be opened and closed even if your hands are wet. The top cap has a bayonet attachment, after inserting it into the housing you have to make a quarter turn to open and close it. Under the caseback you can read the various brands with and the pin with 510 thread,

The small "dug" channel around the holes where the liquid is placed is of great value. If you fill too much or accidentally pour the liquid and not inside the holes thanks to that channel, just close the top cap to make it go automatically into the liquid inlet holes.

As already mentioned, the only tank format available is a 5ml bubble (with a spare in the package) inserted by pressure with watertightness ensured by two rings.

To access the coil compartment, just hold the tank on the airflow knurling and with the other hand grip the bottom to unscrew it easily. The coils are inserted by pressure

Coil chapter and how they behave: to start with, the available ones are the following:

  • UB Max X1 0.15Ω (80-120W) with Ni80 mesh (included in the kit)
  • UB Max X2 0.2Ω (60-80W) with Ni80 mesh UB
  • Max X3 0.3Ω (40-60W) with Kanthal mesh (included in the kit)

The X1 is a high lunge coil but as with all single coils, which do not have who knows what complex wire once you get to 70-80 watts it makes very little sense. To be used absolutely with the air slot wide open if you want to fully appreciate it without making the atom become an oven, if you are looking for a more contrasted shot, turn to X2 or 3.

The X3 is more of a flavor but still open, in several sites I see it advertised for an RDL but if you choke the air ring so much the steam production is cut off a bit and that hint of false hit begins which is just annoying and makes you cough. However, I preferred it to the X1 using it on 35 watts, already enough to have a good aromatic yield and steam that is not too hot. As always, mesh coils go great with creamy ones, it's as if they sweeten them further by raising the more buttery notes: a fruity one can be vaped but there are many other tanks with coilscomposed of single wire section. Duration always too subjective, with my usual mix of more or less impetuous aromas reaching 30 ml on both, I still don't feel any important aromatic drops. Perhaps on the X1 on which I used more clogging creams it is a little worse.

The cotton used is without infamy and without praise, it starts quite quickly, returning an excellent aroma after a few puffs, while on the feed it has always behaved well without dry or gurgling. Unfortunately it is winter and despite the mild temperature I cannot test how the coils with 50/50 bases behave with high temperatures, a base which however only makes sense on the X3. Upon initialization, the X1, especially after the preliminary bath and having inserted it into the tank, needs a good 10 minutes to be sure that all the cotton inside the coil is well sprayed with liquid.

In conclusion, it seems to me a good product for those who are approaching the cloud given the affordable cost but thanks to the very solid interchangeable panels it seems something of a medium/high range. Given the not abnormal dimensions, if you decide that the cloud or the flavor is not your way, you can still "recycle" it as a box for the couch mtl vape. Although essential, I found the circuit amusing, switching between Normal and DIY modes with more aggressive thrust offers interesting variations, in some ways it is a "mechanic" with a full battery without loss of power and with all the necessary protections.

Final recommendation, always use batteries purchased "in pairs" that have the same recharge cycle and use them only in pairs, always well wrapped and intact. Despite the protections that the box offers, one must always be cautious.
