I write something about the Smok Mag Solo Kit with T-Air Subtank sent to me for free from the site@Sourcemore.com. The kit consists of the Mag Solo mod, a single battery mod that mounts 18650 and 21700 batteries and its T-Air, a versatile tank that covers both cloud and flavour.
It arrives in this plastic-coated cardboard box that Poste Italiane always takes care to get me in the best possible condition
with the Mag Solo inside, the T-Air. a spare bubble glass, oring, manuals and manuals, 18650 adapter pre-installed in the mod, a loose coil (unfortunately not packaged) and one already installed inside and usb cable.
The Mag Solo is made of zinc alloy with a weight of 135 grams and dimensions of 95 x 43 x 32 mm, half a centimeter higher than the average single battery on the market. The zinc alloy gives a sense of solidity, cold to the touch and pleasant to hold. Seeing it in the photos I expected a plasticone but I was surprised.
The steel cup measures 20 mm, anchored to the body of the box by 3 screws. 510 attachment to install any type of atom beyond its T-Air and floating gold plated pin . Outside the cup there are 3 more screws on the box frame which unfortunately are not the best aesthetically. The Mag Solo, depending on the personal aesthetic tastes of each vaper, allows you to accommodate atoms with a diameter of up to 27 mm without overhanging.
On the side you can see the return of what is a sort of very pronounced handle, a detail that was proposed even more accentuated in the old and I believe now out of production Smok Mag P3 that has the task of offering a firm grip. Although it seems a bit "edgy" I have never felt any discomfort by squeezing or gripping it incorrectly.
On the back there is an insert in soft imitation leather with an engraving, really well done, which shows the name Mag Solo. Depending on the color you choose, the insert can have different textures as well as color combinations. Some are very sober tone-on-tone like the full black one, others have leather in two different colors plus a third of the stitching.
The case back has no vent holes, an aspect that could make someone turn up their nose with the engravings UK, CA, Designed By Smok and disposal mark.
The battery cap is made up of a small spring which allows it to open by itself as soon as you press the button which releases the tooth. It is by far the "softest" button that I have found in boxes that have this type of opening, probably Smok created it in this way knowing that half of the users go for a "hard blow" to close the flap, without pressing the button. which is very possible to do since the resistance is low. However, I would advise you to avoid it and in case, always check if it is closed.
The inside of the cap is gold plated and clearly bears the "-" symbol to recall the negative pole of the battery on which the cap must rest once closed to allow the Mag Solo to function.
To use the 18650 batteries the Mag Solo comes with the adapter already installed inside, if you want to use the 21700 it must be removed instead.
On the front side there is the very generous square fire button which allows it to be pressed easily in any way you decide to hold the mod which returns a good feeling when pressed. The 0.96 inch TFT screen is not very bright; under the sun, if you wear glasses it is difficult to see the wattage well but also if the mod is on. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn up the brightness.
The two keys + and -, perhaps a little disproportionate to the fire are also well made, made of zinc alloy like the fire (no plastic or steel and consequently, they should not strip with use) excellent feedback when pressed without the cheap feel.
Finally, USB type-c socket: Smok on its flyer invites you to use it to recharge the batteries but says nothing about alleged chips or various precautions to make a 100% recharge really possible without stressing the cell. Therefore much better to use an external charger.
The Mag Solo has one of the most essential circuits ever with only one with the various watts as the only vape mode and little else:
5 clicks of the fire key to turn the circuit on or off
3 clicks of the fire key to block the watts and the fire key with the box not dispensing
- key and + key to block the watts (the fire key DISPENSES, so be careful when carrying it )
fire key and + key pressed together to change theme color (white, red, yellow, green, blue, purple)
fire key and - key pressed together to reset puffs
this is the end, my only friend as someone sang about the features of the Smok Mag Solo. Increase in watts ranging from 1 to 1 without decimals for a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 100 (even with 18650 battery installed).
Small warning: from 5 watts by pressing - you return to 100 watts so be careful to always check the selected wattage.
The interface, on the other hand, is much more complete with everything that needs to be there:
with even TWO indicators for battery charge, both with the classic stylized battery and with the %, then wattage, volt, ohm value of the coil and puff counter.
On protections:
puff timeout after 8 (eight) seconds
short circuit protection circuit
overheating protection
dispensing cutoff if the battery is too low
Some feedback on the circuit: I haven't seen any strange behavior, the battery level always seems to be faithfully reported and I haven't had any busted coil readings. As a fan of the various boost modes I would have definitely liked to see something like this, I would have also been satisfied with a bypass mode but nothing. On consumption, in mtl (vape mode where it is much easier to regulate) with a 3000mah 18650 it fluctuates on 7 or 8 ml traveling on 15 watts. In flavor and spoiler, with its coil around 30-35 watts, consumption is perhaps a little more expensive but nothing alarming.
To complete the combo, in addition to the Mag Solo, the kit also includes the T-Air tank , a Marcantonio with a diameter of 24 mm (26 mm at the knurls) and 51 in height. Thanks to the bubble glass, despite its height more like an mtl atom than a cloud, its capacity is 5 ml with the price of reaching 32mm thick in correspondence with the section where there is the pyrex tank .
Quick exploded view of the T-Air in all its parts, easy to disassemble and reassemble for thorough cleaning but also in case of accidental tank breakage. Starting from the top:
The drip tip connection is a standard 810 with the inlet obtained from the top cap with a hole, 6 mm wide chimney hole. The top cap has a bayonet connection, with a quarter turn it is screwed and unscrewed, with the knurls that help the operation.
By opening it you have access to the two generous holes for the refill, without obstructions in any way by the sheath as occurs in other tanks. From full vg liquids to those stored in glass bottles without droppers, refilling is always very fast. The air ferrule is honeycomb style with 16 air holes per side which obstruct the two large slots and allow the air to be channeled in an orderly manner, reducing turbulence and more, offering a more silent shot.
By unscrewing the top cap, you can easily extract it to see that it has a small tooth which, once the top cap is closed, acts as a stop and turns thanks to an oring which I recommend lubricating every time you re-insert the air cap to avoid wearing it out.
To access the coil housing, simply unscrew the bottom by gripping the knurling. There are two "wings" that guide the coil and allow you to immediately understand if the coil is positioned correctly.
On the T-Air atomizer it is possible to range between the cloud and a flavor that someone could consider almost rdl, by mounting the following coils :
The coils supplied in the kit are
TA 0.2ohm Coil ( 2 in 1 Single Mesh, 50-70W)
TA 0.4ohm Coil ( 20-45W)
and purchasable separately the TA 0.15 ohm Dual Coil (double mesh, 40-60W)
It is by far the first kit that I have come across with the RDL coil supplied, the most sensible vaping method for me on single battery devices and a great Smok to think of us Europeans. With a catalog of "only" 3 coils, types of vape ranging from 30 to 70 watts are covered, as well as differentiating the texture of the mesh, it doesn't seem like anything but several brands offer atomizers that only mount coilseither only from the cloud or only flavour, with no middle ground. On the vape they performed well, the 0.4 for the way I like to vape I think it's the most successful of the ones I've tried in the last year, at 35 watts it has a good aromatic return for a top airflow atom with non-hot steam. It is also possible to play with the air cap and mount a narrower drip tip to obtain something close to a contrasted flavor without making the atom hot or having the sensation of a false hit.
The 0.2 is equivalent to the other mesh coils of the competing cases to be pushed to 60 watts, nothing new on the horizon .
